The first more local statistics from the 2011 Census are beginning to emerge.

As has been reported in the press the population of England and Wales increased by 7.1% from 2001. Whilst the population of Staffordshire increased by 5.2% during this period, the population of Stafford Borough increased by 8.4%. The population of Staffordshire is ageing considerably. The number of residents over 65 has increased by 25% since 2001 and the over 85 year old population has increased by a remarkable 39%.

It is to be hoped that local service planners of health and social services take these numbers fully into consideration when amenities for the elderly are being discussed.
