WHAT’S
IT ALL ABOUT?
A Community First Response Scheme is a group of trained
volunteers, dedicated to a specific area who, under the control of the
Ambulance Service, are notified of medical emergencies in their area and
agree to respond and provide emergency life support until the arrival of the
Ambulance Service.
Barlaston
is the first village in Stafford Borough to establish a Community First
Responder (CFR) Scheme.
WHY DO
WE NEED A SCHEME?
The scheme was set up because approximately 600 people die
each year unnecessarily of cardiac arrest and those who live in a rural
area can expect a slower response from the Emergency Services
than town dwellers. Every minute delay reduces the chance of survival (see
chart below).

THE
BARLASTON SCHEME
Barlaston currently has 20 volunteers who have started
training – doing a first aid at work course before embarking on the more
challenging Community First Responder training. We have now all passed
our first aid at work course.
HOW
MUCH DOES IT COST?
The cost of the scheme is in the region of £18,500 which purchases two
defibrillators and all necessary equipment. The railway line
divide makes it necessary to have two schemes in operation at any one time
which doubles the cost.
FUNDRAISING
We are now a
registered charity and have started fundraising in earnest. Ideas for
fundraising include 'Casualty' themed evening, selling days of the year on a
year planner, house to house collection, sponsored walk, treasure hunt, quiz
night, car boot sale etc.
HOW CAN
I HELP?
The scheme needs cash so if you can help by fundraising,
donations or have any bright ideas then please contact
