BARLASTON COMMUNITY FIRST RESPONDER SCHEME


TRAINING

Training has now been completed.

Volunteers undertook 54 weeks of practical and theory training covering:-

  • Anatomy and Physiology

  • Cell Structure

  • The Cardiovascular System

  • The Respiratory System

  • The Nervous system

  • Advanced Care Skills

  • Use of several airway management devices

  • Administration of Oxygen and Entonox

  • Automated External Defibrillator

  • Administration of the following Drugs

Diazepam, This Drug is Used to Treat Epileptic emergencies. Glyceryl-tri-nitrate - used during the treatment of chest pain/angina.
Adrenaline - which is used to treat life threatening allergic reactions.
Glucagon - which is a drug used for treating Diabetic Emergencies.

In addition to this they had practical and theory examinations, covered shifts with ambulance crews, had a session in Ambulance Control, undertook a driving assessment and at the final exercise day, had experience 'out in the field'.
