THE
MILLENNIUM STONE

In celebration of the
Millennium, Barlaston and Stone Rural Parish Councils erected a
toposcope on the highest point of Downs Bank, nearly 600 feet above
sea level |

The toposcope, carved
from York Stone was
officially unveiled by the Mayor of Stone, Joyce
Farnham and former
Barlaston Parish Councillor, John Plant who had
the original idea for the stone. |

From the top of the hill
visitors can see Staffordshire, Wales, the National Trust properties
of Long Mynd in Shropshire and Mow Cop in Cheshire. |

It is hoped that
this
wonderful monument
should add to the
enjoyment of all who visit Downs Banks and the
stone directional plate
that sits on top helps to identify views. |
