Minutes of Barlaston Parish Council Meeting
held on Tuesday 8th January 1895

The first Meeting of the Parish Council was held in the Schools Barlaston on Tuesday January 8th 1895, where all the Members of the Council were present Viz: Messrs L Wedgwood, H. J. Broughton-Addereley, G. F. Paddock, C. Harvey, I Turner, E. Kent and G. Leighton:-

It was proposed by Mr. Kent seconded by Mr. Turner and carried unanimously that Mr. H. J. Broughton- Adderley be appointed provisional Chairman.

Mr. Broughton- Adderley having taken the Chair it was proposed by Mr. Kent seconded by Mr Harvey and carried unanimously that Mr. L. Wedgwood be appointed Chairman of the Council..

Mr. Wedgwood having returned thanks for his election as Chairman the Minutes of the Parish Meeting were read and confirmed and on the motion of the Chairman seconded by Mr. Paddock it was resolved that the best thanks to the Council be accorded to Mr. J. R. Cooke for his services as Chairman of the Parish Meeting.

A conversation ensued as to the remuneration to be paid to Mr. A. L. Hammond for his services as Clerk to the Council and it was agreed to defer the matter until the Annual Meeting  in April next

It was proposed by Mr. Paddock seconded by Mr. Kent and carried unanimously that the charges of the Returning Officer for the expenses of the election amounting to £4. 12. 0; and the expenses of the Parish Meeting amounting to £1. 5. 1 be paid.

It was proposed by Mr. Paddock seconded by Mr. Leighton and carried unanimously that Mr. Thomas Turner be appointed Treasurer to the Council.

It was proposed by Mr. Paddock seconded by Mr. Kent and carried unanimously that a precept be served on the Overseers of Barlaston directing them to pay to the Treasurer the sum of £5. 17. 1. for the expenses of the Parish Meeting and of the Election.

It was proposed by Mr. Turner seconded by Mr. Paddock and carried that the footbridge across the River Trent on the road leading to the Warren House be put in repair.

It was proposed by Mr. Paddock seconded by the Chairman and ordered that a copy of the foregoing resolution be forwarded to the Chairman of Stone Rural Parish Council with a request that his Council co-operate with this Council in the repair of the bridge referred to, and share the cost.

It was resolved that the next Meeting of the Parish Council be held on Tuesday, 26th day of February next, at seven o'clock in the Evening.
