The Methodist Church Hall was crowded last night (Sept 3rd) with members of the Boys Brigade and their families to watch the Diamond Jubilee baton being handed over to a representative of the West Midlands Brigade for onward transport to Nottingham. The relay will eventually take the baton to London by 15th September. All eight of the North Staffordshire Boys Brigade battalions were represented in the Church Hall. The baton had first been used in a relay to celebrate a royal jubilee in the 1930s. The baton had earlier been transported through the Potteries from Kidsgrove, stopping at the Civic Centre for a reception with the Mayor
